Afro Nature is empowering small holders’ seaweed farmers where 99% of them are women who lack the access of practicing seaweed farming as the market of seaweed is not well defined. Afro nature is equipping them with the best practice for seaweed farming and value addition of turning the seaweed into edible nutritious food and raw material for cosmetics beauty products which helps to increase the value and demand of their dried seaweed.

The motivation for the project is driven by two key factors: the need to empower women farmers and youth and untapping the potential benefits of seaweed to our body and environment.

The impact of this project;

  1. Skill Development, Women Farmers have improved their farming practices, leading to better yield and higher quality produce
  2. Through contract seaweed farming helps protect farmers from market volatility, increase employment opportunities and their communities have improved economically ensuring more stable and prosperous livelihood.
  3. Through seaweed farming the problem of overfishing and the use of poison to catch fish such as UTUPA has been eradicated., hence sustainable environmental practices.
  4. Increased market share, as value added products like food additives, and beauty products has opened new markets and increased demand.
